Privacy Policy
SBS Weather delivers weather forecasts, severe-weather alerts, and farm market information to subscribers by text message (SMS/MMS). We built this service for people who do not use the internet, and our approach to your information reflects the same respect for privacy that brings many of our customers to us. This policy explains what we collect, how we use it, and the promises we make about it.
Information we collect
- Subscription information: the recipient's mobile phone number, ZIP code, chosen services and delivery preferences, and the name and contact information of the account holder (who may be a family member paying on the recipient's behalf).
- Consent records: when and how each recipient opted in (for example, by texting us first, or by verbal consent during a sign-up phone call).
- Message records: logs of messages sent and received, including delivery status, so we can operate and troubleshoot the service.
- Billing information: payment records. Card payments are processed by Stripe, Inc.; we do not store card numbers ourselves. Payments by check or money order are recorded in our ordinary bookkeeping.
Our website does not use advertising trackers or analytics cookies. We do not collect location data from your phone — your location in our system is simply the ZIP code you give us.
We do not sell, rent, share, or trade your mobile phone number, your text-messaging opt-in or consent information, or any subscriber information with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Ever. All the categories of information listed above exclude any sharing for marketing.
How we use your information
Only to operate SBS Weather: delivering the messages you subscribed to, setting your forecast and alert location, billing, customer support, and meeting carrier and legal compliance requirements (for example, honoring STOP requests).
Service providers
We use a small number of service providers strictly to deliver the service: our messaging carrier (Telnyx) transmits texts to your phone, and Stripe processes card payments. These providers act only on our instructions to provide the service and are not permitted to use your information for their own marketing. Weather and market content comes from public government sources (National Weather Service, USDA); nothing about you is sent to them.
Your choices
- Reply STOP to any message to stop receiving texts immediately. Reply HELP for help.
- Call us at 937-400-5246 (the same number you receive texts from) to change your ZIP code, services, or billing, or to ask us to correct or delete your information.
Data retention
We keep subscription and consent records while your subscription is active and for a reasonable period afterward as required for carrier compliance, tax, and bookkeeping purposes, then delete them in the ordinary course.
Children
SBS Weather is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will post the new version at this address with a new effective date. Material changes will be announced by text message to active subscribers.
